So what did you think of the Ryder Cup? Well, if you forget the final score, the minority crowd that acted like idiots and Lee Westwood's putting stroke, I personally thought it was just brilliant to watch and lived up to its reputation as one of the world's leading sporting events. For any non-golfer watching you would think that they would be heading straight for the nearest golf club to sign-up to our great game. But the best bit of all was seeing the two teams showing great respect for each other and individual players bonding and forming friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Now, this is no different than you or I and is one of the main reasons why we play and love golf. For example, I have been playing golf for 30 years now having taken the game up as a child and only last month I played golf with a group of guys that I formed friendships with out on the course back in our junior club days and every year we get together for golf and although we live 100's of miles apart these days, when we get together it is like being back at the original golf club 30 years before. How many other sports would this happen in I ask myself? Over the years I have met so many friendly people, played in wonderful places and laughed/joked with many golfing friends. So if you sometimes question why you play golf, this would surely be at the top of your list? Wouldn't it?
BHGC Club News
Congratulations to Bramshott Hill Golf Club over 50's team who have made it to the Carpet Barn Final at Ferndown Golf Club after a closely contended Semi-final at Crane Valley Golf Club last Sunday. With the match tied at 2-2, all eyes were on the two Jeffs, Gunson and Vanderman who magnificently held on in darkness for a win at the second extra hole of a play-off with a birdie and a 3 - 2 final match result.
The club have played in Finals Day twice before, each time in the 3rd/4th Brian Brady Trophy, this will be their first time in the Trophy Final which will be contested with Weymouth Golf Club and we wish them all the best at Ferndown on Tuesday, 11 October.
