Tell me is this the hardest/narrowest and most difficult tee shot on the golf course (especially off the back tees)? Well from alot of the golfing conversations in the pro shop I had this summer the most frequent statement I heard was "I was doing great until I got to the last and then blasted it into the trees and took ... to finish the hole". So is this you? And have you ever wondered why this testing last hole always seems to bring out the worst in you? Or am I completely wrong? What I do know is for most of you this hole comes at the end of your round where sometimes the "stakes" are at their highest, for example, the chance to beat Joe in a friendly and win the 50p? Or you've tallied up your medal card too early and realised a five here gives your best score ever?
So it's the underlying sometimes unknowing pressure that leads to that quicker than normal, stiffer/shorter backswing, vice like grip that tips you over the edge and sends the ball soaring out of control along with the final hole score of the day.
Now I have no short solution to the problem and we could pick all day into the "what you need to do's" but next time you play the 18th hole try to focus on a long positive tee shot (Louis Oosthuizen was quoted at his Open Championship victory that the more aggressive he was with his tee shots over the last few holes the less pressure he felt), visualise the balls flight down the middle of the fairway, tell yourself how much you enjoy a golfing challenge, stay in the moment and forget the score and just enjoy taking your time to swing club and do not rush to hit the ball. I look forward to hearing the stories in the shop soon! Or maybe crying into a hot coffee or two?
Breakfast club will run every Tuesday morning between 8am and 10am and will cost just £5 for a full English breakfast including a FREE hot drink.
